Kopin to Supply Displays for Night-Vision Binoculars
Kopin Corp. of Taunton, Mass., has received an order to supply Flir Systems AB of Danderyd, Sweden, with VGA-resolution CyberDisplay 640M modules that will display IR images in night-vision binoculars for Swedish and Norwegian military personnel.
Kopin designed the active-matrix liquid crystal displays for integration with Flir's forward observer thermal imager. Its modules were selected because of their image quality, reliability and wide operating temperature range, according to Rutger Dahlin, manager of Flir's Optronics Systems. The compact, lightweight devices, which require low power, will enable scouts or forward observers to carry out surveillance, monitor ground movement and identify targets normally invisible to the naked eye.
