Emcore and Corona Sign Cross-Licensing Agreement

In a partnership accord for parallel optical transmitters and receivers, Emcore Corp. of Somerset, N.J., has gained an exclusive license to produce and sell the OptoCube 40 modules of Corona Optical Systems Inc., based in Lombard, Ill. In return, Corona has obtained a license to manufacture and sell Emcore's model 9512 12-channel devices.
Corona's units provide full electrical-to-optical conversion in a compact package and feature 12 channels operating at speeds of up to 3.35 Gb/s per channel for a throughput of more than 40 Gb/s. Emcore's model provides roughly the same aggregate throughput over 300 m. The modules have applications in distributed optical backplanes, arrayed serial links at OC-48 and higher speeds, and optical ribbon cable for high-speed logic-to-logic data links.
