DRS Awarded $31 M for Navy Displays

PARSIPPANY, N.J., June 16 -- DRS Technologies Inc. announced today it has been awarded new orders valued at approximately $31 million to provide production, spares and engineering services for the US Navy's AN/UYQ-70 advanced display systems and related computer peripheral equipment for new Aegis destroyers, cruisers and other surface ships, as well as E-2C Hawkeye aircraft and USS Los Angeles-class SSN 688 attack submarines.

The contracts are from Lockheed Martin Maritime Systems & Sensors Tactical Systems in Eagan, Minn., the prime contractor for the AN/UYQ-70 program.

The manufacture of the next-generation, commercial off-the-shelf systems will be performed by the DRS Laurel Technologies unit in Johnstown, Pa., and engineering services will be provided by the DRS Electronic Systems unit in Gaithersburg, Md.

The AN/UYQ-70 workstations are being installed throughout the Navy's surface, subsurface and air fleet, including its LHA-class amphibious assault platforms, Nimitz-class aircraft carriers and Virginia-class NSSN new attack submarines, as well as Aegis class surface ships, USS Los Angeles class SSN 688 and other submarines and E-2C Hawkeye aircraft.

The AN/UYQ-70 workstations are becoming the Navy's common computer display consoles, DRS said.

DRS and Lockheed Martin have been supporting the AN/UYQ-70 program since it was awarded in 1994 and recompeted in 1998. They will continue in the program for the next five years under a follow-on contract currently being negotiated between Lockheed Martin and the Navy.
