Alan Rae has joined NanoDynamics Inc., a Buffalo, N.Y., nanomaterials manufacturer, as vice president of market and business development. A technologist with 25 years of experience in advanced materials, Rae is director of research of the National Electronics Manufacturing Initiative (NEMI), an industry consortium focused on strengthening the global electronics manufacturing supply chain. NanoDynamics also announced it has been awarded a $100,000 Small Business Innovative Research Phase I award from the US Air Force to develop low-cost tantalum nanomaterials that can be used in advanced armor piercing ammunition and warheads. NanoDynamics will partner with Purdue University to produce the tantalum nanomaterials using high-velocity deformation technology. . . . Elbit Vision Systems Ltd. announced it has received an order potentially worth $1,500,000 for an automatic inspection system from a Japanese manufacturer of automotive seatbelts. The system is capable of inspecting several strips of seatbelt fabric simultaneously while the inspection results of each strip are displayed on a single monitor. Elbit Vision Systems, based in Israel, makes automatic optical inspection and monitoring systems for a variety of industries.    . . .    3D Systems Corp., of Valencia, Calif., announced it has a nonexclusive agreement to distribute DSM Desotech Inc.'s stereolithography (SL) resin. DSM Desotech, a maker of ultraviolet light and electron beam curable materials, is a business unit of DSM NV. In 1999, DSM Desotech acquired Dupont Somos, now DSM Somos. DSM Somos will continue to manufacture and distribute these products directly and through its existing network of authorized distributors. 3D Systems plans to sell DSM Somos-branded resins worldwide while continuing to manufacture, market and distribute its own Accura SL resins.
