Garry Rogerson, PhD, has joined the board of Coherent Inc. Rogerson is president and CEO of Varian Inc., a Palo Alto, Calif.-based supplier of scientific instruments and consumable laboratory supplies, vacuum products and services and contract electronic manufacturing services. He was previously COO and senior vice president of Varian's Scientific Instruments segment, responsible for its spectroscopy, chromatography, NMR, sample preparation products and consumable product lines. Coherent, of Santa Clara, develops laser and photonics-based technology for the commercial and scientific research markets.
