Thermo Electron to Buy its Own Securities
WALTHAM, Mass., July 22 -- Thermo Electron Corp., a maker of analytical instruments, announced today that its board of directors has authorized the repurchase, through July 22, 2005, of $100 million of its own debt and equity securities in the open market or in negotiated transactions. The company's previous repurchase authorization -- dated February 26 -- has been substantially depleted.
Thermo Electron sold Spectra-Physics, its optical technologies unit, to Newport Corp. ealier this month for about $300 million.
