ACOL Technologies S.A., a Geneva, Switzerland-based company developing technologies for high-brightness LEDs used in public lighting, announced it has appointed Raisa Stolyarevskaya to head its LED and chip diagnostic laboratory. Stolyarevskay has 30 years of experience in optical and physical measurements and research. She was formerly director of the photometric group at VNIOFII, the leading Russian research institution responsible for the development of the national system for assuring measurement uniformity in photometry and radiometry. ACOL has a research center in Moscow and a North American sales office in Sturbridge, Mass. . . . Alase Technologies Inc., a Pepperell, Mass., provider of laser etching equipment, software and services for the laser processing industry, announced that Mecco Marking and Traceability will offer its laser marking systems to complement its line of industrial high-speed marking equipment. Mecco, based in Ingomar, Pa., said it will distribute Alase YAG: flash lamp, YAG: diode, fiber and CO2 laser products under a private label. . . . Veeco Instruments Inc., of Woodbury, N.Y., announced it has appointed Peter J. Simone to its board of directors and its audit committee. Simone, an independent consultant for North Bridge Venture Partners and Spinner Asset Management, is also a member of the board of Cymer Inc., Newport Corporation, Sanmina-SCI Corp. and several private companies. Veeco makes metrology and process equipment systems for the semiconductor, data storage, telecom/wireless and scientific/research markets.
