Lumileds Orders Veeco GaN Systems
WOODBURY, N.Y., July 30 -- Veeco Instruments Inc. announced it has received a $10 million order to supply GaNzilla MOCVD (metal organic chemical vapor deposition) production systems to Lumileds Lighting, of San Jose, Calif. The initial order was received during Veeco's second quarter, and is part of a multiyear purchase order for additional systems. Lumileds manufactures high-power LEDs.
Veeco's GaNzilla system is used in the high-volume production of GaN-based LEDs; in illumination applications such as cell phone backlighting, automotive and traffic signals; and increasingly for backlighting larger LCD screens. MOCVD is the critical deposition step that determines LED device functionality and brightness.
Veeco Instruments develops technology for nanoscale applications in the data storage, compound semiconductor/wireless, semiconductor and scientific research markets. Its metrology products are used to measure at the nanoscale and its process equipment tools help create nanoscale devices.
