City University of New York Redesignated
City University of New York has been redesignated as the site for the New York State Center for Advanced Technology. Robert R. Alfano will continue to direct the renamed NYS Center for Advanced Technology in Photonics Applications. The state Office of Science, Technology and Academic Research is contributing up to $10 million over the next 10 years. Focusing on areas that improve human health and that provide national defense, researchers will develop ultrafast lasers, nanoscale photonic materials and devices, optical imaging and medical diagnostics, and biological sensing and processes.
