Emcore Buys Corona

Emcore Corp. of Somerset, N.J., a provider of semiconductor technologies for global communications, has acquired Corona Optical Systems of Lombard, Ill., and Eau Claire, Wis., in a cash-for-stock merger. In the area of parallel optics, Corona will supply its OptoCube ultrasmall-form-factor transceiver for use in high-density telecommunications switching boxes. The purchase, for $1.2 million in cash, includes product lines, intellectual property, manufacturing technology and physical assets. Emcore will gain technologies for integration into its products. The OptoCube will be added to Emcore's line of Snap-12, QuadLink and SmartLink transceivers.
