'Future of Light' to be Symposium Topic

BOSTON, Nov. 4 -- The current economic climate of the photonics industry and a global view of how it will evolve in the coming years will be highlighted at the 8th Annual Executive "Future of Light" Symposium, to be held Nov. 9 at Boston University's Photonics Center, 8 Saint Mary's St., Boston.

The day-long symposium will be attended by business leaders and representatives from technical laboratories, government organizations, venture capital firms and foreign governments. Senior executives and technology leaders will speak on topics including: "Private Equity Outlook," by Peter Brooke, chairman, founder and former CEO at Advent International; "Global Perspective of the Optoelectronics Industry," Fred Welsh, former executive director, Optoelectronics Industry Development Association; "Next-Generation Integrated Optical Technologies," Waguih Ishak, director of cmmunications and optics research, Agilent Technologies; and "Optoelectronic Components and Systems: New Markets," by John Roush, vice president and general manager, optoelectronics, Perkin Elmer Corp.

Also, "The Future of Optical Communications," Andrew Rickman OBE, chairman and founder, Bookham Technologies; "Photonics in National Defense," General Paul J. Kern, commanding general, US Army Materiel Command; "Flat-Panel Display Industry," Dona Flamme, general manager, display materials and VP display components, Eastman Kodak Co.; "Organic and LED Solid-State Lighting and Displays," Alfred Felder, OLED unit business head, Osram Opto Semiconductors; "Medical Imaging: Current Systems and Future Direction," Jacques Souquet, CTO, Phillips Medical Systems; and "Technology Commercialization: A Model for the New Millennium," by George N.
