Nanotech Consortium Launched

SAN DIEGO, Nov. 23 -- Accelrys Inc., a San Diego provider of software for computation, simulation and the management and mining of scientific data used by biologists, chemists and materials scientists, including nanotechnology researchers, has launched a consortium it says will help nanotechnology companies bring products to market faster and with less risk.

The goal of the Accelrys Nanotechnology Consortium is to accelerate the development of software tools for the design of nanomaterials and nanodevices and to enhance nanotechnology research and development by fostering collaboration between scientists and engineers, the company said. Charter members include Corning Inc.; Fujitsu; e2v Technologies; Imperial College, London; and Uppsala University, Sweden. The first consortium meeting was held in October in New York City.

"Close partnership and collaboration with industry is essential for Accelrys to develop software and services that help solve critical research problems," said Mark J. Emkjer, president and CEO of Accelrys.
