Agiltron Inc., a Wilmington, Mass., maker of fiber optic components, announced today design wins with several leading telecommunication systems companies for its MEMS-based variable optical attenuator (VOA). The company is now in volume production of these components. Agiltron said development of its proprietary MM-VOA was partially supported by a grant from the US Department of Commerce Advanced Technology Program. It uses a differentiated MEMS technology to achieve a simple and highly robust design, the company said. Agiltron is exhibiting these products at the Photonics West 2005 exhibition, being held this week in San Jose, Calif.

Southampton Photonics Inc. (SPI), based in Southampton, England, announced at Photonics West that it has established new sales channels in Europe and Asia. Bfi Optilas has been appointed pan-European distributor for Europe, A&P Instrumentation for China, Japan Laser Corp. for Japan and Analytical Technologies for Southeast Asia.
