Laser Institute Invites Abstracts

ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 10 -- The Laser Institute of America (LIA) is seeking abstracts for the 24th International Congress on Applications of Lasers and Electro-Optics (ICALEO 2005), to be held Oct. 31-Nov. 3 in Miami.

ICALEO 2005 will include two conferences, the Laser Materials Processing Conference and the Laser Microfabrication Conference, as well as a poster presentation gallery and a Laser Solutions short course. The congress general chair is Andreas Ostendorf, of Laser Zentrum Hannover, in Hannover, Germany. Abstracts should contain original, recent unpublished results of application research, development or implementation. The submission deadline is March 25.

Papers are sought for the Laser Materials Processing Conference on topics such as aerospace, automotive and laser safety; processes like rapid prototyping, surface modification and sensing and monitoring; and on lasers, including diode, diode-pumped lasers; and advanced laser sources.

Areas of special interest in the Laser Microfabrication Conference include applications in medicine and biotechnology; precision mechanics and photonic components, laser sources, beam guiding and precision laser machines; and fundamental aspects such as ultrafast laser processes and ultraviolet laser/material interaction. Congress organizers are also seeking instructors to present short courses that will provide attendees with an understanding of how practical applications of lasers are making an impact on manufacturing. Commercial content will not be accepted.
