NeoPhotonics Acquires Major Share of Photon Technology
A supplier of integrated optical, planar lightwave circuit modules for optical networks, NeoPhotonics Corp. of San Jose, Calif., has become the largest shareholder in Photon Technology Co. Ltd. of Shenzhen, China, acquiring roughly one-third of its outstanding shares in a cash and stock transaction.
Together, the companies will offer a line of active and passive components to manufacturers of fiber-to-the-premises and transport network equipment. They intend to combine passive planar lightwave circuit technology with high-volume laser and transceiver manufacturing capabilities. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
