Kyocera Endows Alfred University
Ceramics manufacturer Kyocera Corp. of Kyoto, Japan, will donate $10 million to Alfred University in New York to endow its school of engineering. The university plans to rename the school Kazuo Inamori School of Engineering in honor of the founder and chairman emeritus of Kyocera. With a portion of the income, the university will add four faculty members who specialize in the processing of advanced materials -- particularly for photonics and biomedical applications -- to create a fine ceramics/nanotechnology research center. The center will enable faculty, students and company engineers to collaborate.
