CVI Laser Acquires OCI

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., June 2 --Optics manufacturer CVI Laser announced it has acquired Optical Components Inc. (OCI), a Covina, Calif., maker of custom optical elements and coatings for a variety of industries, especially aerospace and national laboratories.

CVI serves the semiconductor, biotechology, industrial, commercial, aerospace and research industries. OCI's manufacturing capabilities include infrared optical component polishing and coating, rapid prototype optics shaping and polishing, precision prism manufacturing and optomechanical subassembly.

Stuart Schoenmann, CEO of CVI, said CVI intends to increase manufacturing capacity through capital investment projects at the OCI facility.

"CVI’s acquisition strategy is focused to expand the product line, to increase capabilities and address growing market opportunities," Schoemann said. "This acquisition will enable CVI to meet customer demand for rapid prototyping, high-volume production and infrared imaging optics and assemblies.

Lynn Montgomery, OCI founder and president, will lead the new CVI division with Vice President of Operations Mark West, then will take on a technology development role to expand CVI’s capabilities.
