David Vellequette was named senior vice president and CFO of JDS Uniphase Corp., the company announced today. Vellequette has been acting senior financial officer since February. . . . Microvision Inc., of Bothell, Wash., announced it has selected Danish optics manufacturer Kaleido Technology ApS to supply a free-form aspheric mirror for its MicroHUD head-up display system. The MicroHUD is being developed for automotive companies, including VW and BMW, and for other applications; it uses microelectromechanical systems (MEMS)-based scanned beam technology to display navigation, performance and other vehicle information by reflecting an image off a car windshield. . . . Fusion UV Systems Inc. was granted US patent 6,908,586 B1, "Free Radical Polymerization Method Having Reduced Premature Termination, Apparatus for Performing the Method, and Product Formed Thereby," which supports the company's Light Hammer line of high-intensity ultraviolet (UV) lamps for industrial UV curing. It applies to the enhanced level of curing that results when substantially constant UV is used to cure coatings and inks. Fusion UV Systems, based in Gaithersburg, Md., is a member company of Spectris plc, of Surrey, England. . . .
