Comsol Inc. has published its Comsol News No.1, 2005 issue. The technical computing magazine discusses the applications of mathematical modeling and simulation in research, industry and education, while highlighting Femlab, a software package for the modeling of physics-based systems. The 36-page full-color issue features articles on the use of Femlab in the design of a packaging technique for integrated circuits and in the design of a space-based sensor that will detect x-rays emanating from the big bang. Other articles consider the role of modeling in the study of electric fields in volcanoes and in the optimization of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell designs.
