Custom Aspheric Manufacturing Unit Opens
Edmund Optics Inc. of Barrington, N.J., has installed a custom aspheric manufacturing unit at its Pennsburg, Pa., facility with the intent to provide medium-volume production services as well as rapid prototyping of optical components.
The environmentally controlled facility enables the company to produce high-departure aspheric geometries that can be made cost-effectively in glass, ceramic or crystalline materials. It houses advanced aspheric grinding and polishing equipment along with magnetorheological finishing technology.
Metrology platforms incorporated in the machines perform real-time, in-process error correction, reducing manufacturing time.
