HAZARD EVALUATION

Revised and expanded from its original version, the program titled “LIA’s Advanced Laser Hazard Evaluator Software” provides additional features for laser safety officers. The software, released by the Laser Institute of America and based on the ANSI Z136.1 “Safe Use of Lasers” standard, will perform repeated calculations of optical density, maximum permissible exposure (MPE), nominal ocular hazard distance, nominal hazard zone and laser hazard classifications. On the larger display, users can view the use of eye protection, the color of the laser, different beam diameters, damage when MPE is exceeded and the differences in corneal, retinal and skin exposure. The program runs under Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT and XP. The nonrefundable cost is $450 for LIA members and $495 for nonmembers.
