SDL and Quinta to Develop Optical Storage

The US Department of Commerce has awarded SDL Inc. and Quinta Corp., both of San Jose, Calif., a three-year, $3 million contract to develop advanced optical storage technology. The contract is part of the department's advanced technology program.
Quinta, a wholly owned subsidiary of Seagate Technology Inc., will develop the components for advanced flying optical heads that are used in conjunction with advanced blue and red laser sources. SDL will develop the lasers.
