Luna Innovations Buys Luna Technologies

BLACKSBURG, Va., Oct. 11 -- Luna Innovations Inc., a technology development company focused on sensing, advanced materials and systems integration, has acquired Luna Technologies Inc., a maker of optical test instruments.

Luna Innovations' products and services are sold to industrial, government and academic customers, primarily in the US. Luna Technologies concentrates on the telecommunications market space through various international sales channels.

The Blacksburg, Va.-based companies said they will integrate their technologies, product lines and personnel. Luna Technologies will keep its name and brand identity.

Luna Technologies, now division of Luna Innovations, was funded by venture capital investments in 2000 and 2003 totaling approximately $12 million, with Columbia Capital, Envest Ventures, Novak Biddle Venture Partners and SoundView Technology as lead investors. The acquisition closed on Sept. 30.

Luna Technologies manufactures optical test instruments incorporating new photonics technology based on interferometric measurement research done at NASA by Luna Technologies CTO Mark Froggatt.
