SAIC Acquires GIS Provider
SAN DIEGO and MCLEAN, Va., Oct. 12 -- San Diego-based Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC) announced this week it has completed the acquisition of IMAPS LLC, a Columbia, Ill., provider of geographic information systems (GIS) for commercial and government customers, focused on aviation flight planning and marine navigation.
SAIC is an employee-owned research and engineering firm focusing on national security, homeland security, energy, the environment, space, telecommunications, health care and logistics. The company said the acquisition enhances its ability to support the national security and intelligence community markets and enables it to provide navigational aid to the aeronautical and marine communities through its acquisition of IMAPS' Web sites (www.aeroplanner.com and www.marineplanner.com).
IMAPS' 67 employees have joined SAIC's Mission Integration Business Unit.
