LED Makers Team to Create Products

CARROLLTON, Texas, Oct. 14 -– Optek Technology, a supplier of optoelectronic products for sensing, illumination and indication applications, has signed a solid-state lighting research and development, manufacturing and marketing agreement with Lednium, an Australia-based advanced LED manufacturer.

Optek, a TT electronics company, established a visible LED business unit earlier this year, and Lednium developed the first 3-D LED die platform for both white and monocolor LEDs, as well as end-product LED assemblies for applications ranging from architectural lighting to automotive aftermarket assemblies for tractor-trailer exterior taillights and clearance lights. Under the terms of the agreement, Optek will develop a series of solid-state lighting products using Lednium packaging technology. Designated the Optek Lednium series, the new product line will include single-chip "cup" packaged discrete LED lighting units as well as multichip geodesic dome-shaped 10-W LED assemblies in white, blue, green, amber and red, and color combinations such as RGB.

Optek and Lednium plan to jointly develop other wavelength technologies to be packaged for various markets, from medical applications to surveillance and security equipment. Applications for the Optek Lednium series include architectural lighting, automotive, aviation, display, entertainment, gaming and vending machines, marine, military, signs and signals, variable message signs and general illumination.
