Emcore Takes Over K2 Optronics
Emcore Corp. of Somerset, N.J., has acquired K2 Optronics Inc. of Sunnyvale, Calif., in a merger transaction. Previously an investor in K2, Emcore paid approximately $4.8 million in common stock to purchase the remaining portion of the company. It expects strong sales of directly modulated transmitters based on K2’s external cavity laser technology. The acquired company specializes in analog and digital transmission lasers for the cable television, sensing, and test and measurement industries.
Emcore plans to continue design and production at K2’s facility for a six-month transition period, then to integrate the company’s engineering design and prototype production teams with its Silicon Valley Design Center in Santa Clara, Calif.
