Kollmorgen Awarded Navy Sights Contract
WASHINGTON, March 14, 2006 -- Kollmorgen Corp., a Northampton, Mass., provider of precision motion control technology and a member of Danaher Corp., is being awarded a $5,620,000 modification to a previous contract to procure four MK 46 optical sight systems (OSS). The OSS is an integral component of the MK34 gun weapon system, which includes the five-inch MK45 gun mount and the MK 160 gun computer system.
The OSS provides a safety checksight to allow a gun operator to determine safe firing zones during gun operation and is used to support short-range anti-surface warfare, naval gun fire support counter-battery and target identification functions. Two units will be for the Coast Guard, one will be for the Navy and one for the government of Korea under the US government's Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program, the Department of Defense said in a statement.
Work will be performed in Northampton and is expected to be completed by September 2008. The Naval Sea Systems Command is the contracting activity agency.
