Flir, Autoliv Collaborate on IR Night Vision
Flir Systems Inc. has granted a license to Autoliv Inc. of Stockholm, Sweden, for its automotive infrared camera design. Under terms of the agreement, the Portland, Ore., company will provide infrared sensors for integration into Autoliv’s night-vision cameras. The devices will use Flir’s 320 × 240-pixel vanadium-oxide uncooled infrared sensor incorporating the Autovox technology.
The agreement allows Autoliv to begin manufacturing and shipping the system to its initial customer, BMW AG of Munich, Germany, and provides for shipments to other automobile manufacturers as well. BMW introduced its night-vision system for its 7 series cars last year.
Flir also has received a blanket purchase order from Autoliv for infrared sensors, with quantities dependent on customer and market demand.
