Osram Opto and Avago Cross-License Patents

Osram Opto Semiconductors GmbH of Regensburg, Germany, and Avago Technologies of San Jose, Calif., have entered into a limited patent cross-license agreement. Osram has granted Avago a license for several patents to manufacture and sell white LEDs with special conversion technology, and surface-mount LEDs. Avago, which has facilities in Germany and Singapore, has granted Osram a patent license covering LED systems, including those for projection and flat panel LCDs. The agreement represents a step toward the adoption of both white and RGB LEDs.
