Survey Indicates Rapid LED Adoption for Lighting
Results of a poll conducted during the Light+Building trade show in Frankfurt, Germany, this week show that the lighting market is on the verge of a major shift to LEDs, said Cree Inc., a maker of LED solid-state lighting components based in Durham, N.C. Mindwave Research conducted the poll of 123 attendees, including industry executives, architects, designers and engineers, for Cree. Sixty-one percent of respondents said they believe LEDs will replace fluorescents in office and commercial spaces within five years. Fifty percent said they have seen a 20 to 60 percent growth rate for LED lighting applications in their businesses over the past six months, and 50 percent said they believe that LED lighting will represent more than half of their sales or installations by 2009, according to Cree.
