Coherent Purchases Excel Technology

Coherent Inc. of Santa Clara, Calif., has purchased Excel Technology Inc. of East Setauket, N.Y., a manufacturer of laser systems and electro-optical components, in a cash transaction valued at approximately $376 million. The agreement is subject to approval from regulators and from Excel’s stockholders. The combined product portfolio will include a variety of materials processing components, lasers and subsystems.
