KLA-Tencor Acquires ADE

KLA-Tencor Corp. of San Jose, Calif., has agreed to buy ADE Corp. of Westwood, Mass., in a stock-for-stock transaction valued at approximately $488 million. ADE is a supplier of metrology and inspection systems for the semiconductor, magnetic data storage and optics manufacturing industries. The technology detects surface defects, shape, flatness and nanotopography of substrates.
