Flextronics, Nortel Complete Calgary Operations Transfer
Flextronics International Ltd., a Singapore-based electronics manufacturing services (EMS), and Nortel announced today they have completed the transfer of the manufacturing operations and related assets -- including product integration, testing, repair and logistics operations -- of Nortel’s Systems House in Calgary to Flextronics. Approximately 650 Nortel employees in Calgary will transfer to Flextronics, working in various locations. The move is part of a five-year plan to divest substantially all of Nortel's manufacturing activities to EMS companies. Nortel transferred operations in Montreal,Quebec, and in Châteaudun, France, to Flextronics in 2005. Flextronics CEO Mike McNamara said the Calgary facility transfer should generate the company more than $2 billion of revenue annually and create "the broadest capability of any EMS company in the telecom market."
