Eurofiber, TVA Select JDSU Systems

Eurofiber, a provider of managed dark fiber in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg ("the Benelux"), where it owns a fiber optic network, has purchased JDSU's optical network management system to monitor service of its dark fiber network infrastructure. The agreement includes options for future service-level agreement and network support. JDSU also announced that its T-BERD/MTS-8000 optical test platform was selected by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) for delivery of high-bandwidth DWDM and Gigabit Ethernet services. TVA will use the T-BERD 8000 to support OC-192, OC-48 and GigE services over its "power WAN" DWDM network. Included in the purchase is the T-BERD/MTS-8000 transport module and the T-BERD/MTS-8000 optical spectrum analysis module. JDSU also said its 16-bit optically powered Data Link (OPDL-16) subsystem passed government testing in China. Working in conjunction with Zhuhai Cheng-Rui Electric Power Company Ltd., JDSU incorporated the OPDL-16 as the power and data delivery system to demonstrate all-fiber, digitally-based electrical current measurement. JDSU’s Photonic Power Business Unit recently achieved a record in the conversion efficiency of laser light into electrical power. JDSU said its 3 and 5 and five volt gallium arsenide photovoltaic power converter is providing optical-to-electrical conversion efficiency of more than than 50 percent. JDSU will exhibit its OPDL-16 system at the IEEE PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition, being held May 22-24 in Dallas.
