West Penn Power Invests in Plextronics
The West Penn Power Sustainable Energy Fund has provided $500,000 to Plextronics Inc. of Pittsburgh, a developer of active-layer technology enabling broad market commercialization of printed electronic devices, to accelerate the development of Plexcore HIL, an organic nonacidic, solvent-based hole-injection layer for organic LEDs. A key area of development will be expanding and including emitters in applications as well as improving the lifetime and efficiency of the devices.
The US Department of Energy estimates a savings of $125 billion and a 29 percent decrease in energy consumption by 2025 with the implementation of solid-state lighting.
