General Dynamics Team Competes to Design Government's Wireless Network

General Dynamics C4 Systems, a Scottsdale, Ariz.-based business unit of General Dynamics that integrates secure communication and information systems and technology, has been awarded one of two contracts to prepare a design and implementation plan for an initial service area of the US government's future Integrated Wireless Network (IWN). The goal is for IWN to provide secure, seamless, interoperable and reliable nationwide wireless voice, data and multimedia communication among 80,000 federal agents and law enforcement officers engaged in disaster response, law enforcement, protective services and homeland security. Following the design competition, the government will select a single contractor for full implementation of IWN. The General Dynamics IWN team also includes General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems (Arlington, Va.); General Dynamics Information Technology (Fairfax, Va.); IBM (Armonk, N.Y.); M/A-COM (Lowell, Mass.); Nortel Government Solutions (Fairfax, Va.); and Verizon Wireless (Laurel, Md.).
