NE Fiberoptic Council Awards Photonics Scholarships

The New England Fiberoptic Council recently awarded $1000 scholarships to seven students who will enter photonics-related programs at New England regional technical and community colleges. They are: John H. Wadsworth III of Waterford, Conn., for the Three Rivers Community College fiber optics program; Emiliana Rivas of Springfield, Mass., laser electro-optics, Springfield Technical Community College (STCC); Christopher A. Moulton of Boscawen, N.H., fiber optics, New Hampshire Technical Institute,

Concord, N.H.; and Norman Lloyd Jr. of Palmer, Mass., laser electro-optics technology, STCC; Stephen Morrissey of Effingham, N.H., fiber optics, New Hampshire Community Technical College at Pease; and Yevhen Rutovytsky of Norwich, Conn., fiber optics, Three Rivers Community College. (A seventh scholarship winner did not wish to disclose personal information.) Wadsworth has a double major in electrical engineering technology and photonics engineering technology at Three Rivers and is the SPIE student chapter president; his interests include fiber optics and nanotechnology. After Rivas receives her associate's degree, she said she will pursue a bachelor's degree at Western New England College. Moulton is majoring in broadband networking and communications technology with an eye toward a career as a fiber optics technologist. Lloyd plans to pursue a BS degree in engineering and an MBA.
