NeoPhotonics Acquires LightConnect and OpTun
In California, NeoPhotonics Corp. of San Jose, a supplier of fiber optic components and modules for core, fiber-to-the-premises and other broadband networks, has purchased LightConnect Inc. of Newark and OpTun Inc. of Santa Clara. Through the acquisitions, the company expects to expand its offerings in next-generation optical networks, which will require dynamic reconfiguration for the increase in data traffic generated by new broadband services.
LightConnect supplies microelectromechanical-systems-based components and modules for fiber optic communications systems, including blockers, variable optical attenuators, and dynamic gain and channel equalizers. OpTun develops reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexers based on planar lightwave circuits. NeoPhotonics will combine the technologies with its planar lightwave passive optical components to provide enhanced multiplexers to equipment suppliers for use in a variety of network architectures.
