Tessera Secures Digital Optics
A supplier of miniaturization technologies for the electronics industry, Tessera Technologies Inc. of San Jose, Calif., has purchased micro-optical products developer Digital Optics Corp. The acquired company’s facility in Charlotte, N.C., will become Tessera’s Micro-Optics Center of Excellence, providing Tessera with technologies to develop cost-effective, miniaturized imaging products for consumer optics applications, including camera phones and next-generation DVD players. Tessera paid approximately $59.5 million in cash for all outstanding Digital Optics equity. The acquisition builds on wafer-level image sensor packaging technology assets purchased by Tessera in 2005.
