Luxtera Names Advisory Board Member

Silicon photonics company Luxtera Inc. of Carlsbad, Calif. announced it has added Ashok Krishnamoorthy, an engineer and director at Sun Microsystems, to its advisory board. Previously, he was president at AraLight, a Lucent Technologies venture, where he was responsible for leading product design and development for the company’s optical interconnect product. Before that, he was and entrepreneur-in-residence with Lucent New Ventures. He was also a member of the Advanced Photonics Research Department at Bell Labs, where he investigated methods of integrating optical devices into silicon VLSI circuits. Luxtera’s technology integrate photonics and mainstream electronics on a single-production CMOS die, which along with an integrated laser brings fiber connectivity directly to the chip. One of the key target markets for Luxtera’s transceiver products is high-performance computing optical interconnect. The company is currently sampling devices, and said it will launch a commercial transceiver product line based on this underlying technology in 2007. Future applications will extend to chip-to-chip and intra-chip optical connectivity.
