IMAGE STABILIZATION

Part of the SPIE “Tutorial Text” series, the 112-page volume Introduction to Image Stabilization explores aspects of the technique as it is used in optical systems for astronomy and communications. It considers the causes of image blurring as well as components that are used to construct a stabilized system. Chapters address the effects of atmospheric turbulence on a wavefront and how to sense and minimize them. A survey of existing image stabilization systems is provided, and several alternative approaches are discussed. Scott W. Teare and Sergio R. Restaino; SPIE Press, Bellingham, Wash., 2006; softcover, $39, SPIE members; $47, nonmembers.
