Electric Lightwave to Create Western US SONET Ring
Electric Lightwave Inc. of Vancouver, Wash., announced that it would implement what it calls the largest ringed SONET network in the Western US. The company's 3000-mile SONET ring is slated for completion in the fall of 1999. It will consist of a 1300-mile stretch from Portland, Ore., through Sacramento, San Francisco and Los Angeles. A second 1600-mile inland route will connect Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Boise, Idaho, and Portland. The network will connect with other broadband long-haul routes between metropolitan areas. Once completed, it will span more than 4500 miles.
