EP-IR ANALYSIS

Aspectrics Inc. has released an application note titled “100 Chemical Pictures Every Second” that is downloadable from its Web site. The two-page document describes an experiment in which an Aspectrics MC5000A 128-channel encoded photometric (EP) IR spectrometer covering the 2.5- to 5.0-μm spectral range was used to record the kinetics of methanol explosive combustion. It indicates that the technique allows access to full spectrum information at a rate of 100 scans per second (one complete refresh of the total chemical information every 10 ms). It provides a diagram of the experimental setup and figures detailing emission spectra. The results revealed that the technology can capture 30-ms reaction information over the entire spectral range.
