GSI Buys Thales Optronics' Beryllium Unit
GSI Group Inc. today announced it has acquired the beryllium mirrors and structures business of Thales Optronics Ltd. of Taunton, England, for an undisclosed amount.
GSI Group of Billerica supplies precision motion-control components, lasers and laser-based advanced manufacturing systems to the medical, semiconductor, electronics, and industrial markets. Thales Optronics is a business unit of the Thales Group's Land & Joint Systems Div. Its beryllium mirrors business will be combined with GSI's existing optical scanning and precision optics product lines, which have applications in the electronics, telecommunications and aerospace industries, GSI said.
Sergio Edelstein, CEO and president of GSI Group, said in a statement, "This acquisition is a great strategic fit that will support the growth of our Precision Technology segment."
The acquisition is expected to be slightly accretive to GSI's 2007 net earnings, the company said.
