Optics East to Stress Sensors

Novel uses for sensors, advanced networking and related applications will be highlighted at SPIE's Optics East 2007, to be held Sept. 9-12 at the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston.

Made up of 26 interdisciplinary conferences emphasizing the latest sensor and communication technologies, the event is designed to bridge several scientific disciplines and globuser communities. Nearly 1000 technical presentations and a free trade show exhibition will cover optics and photonics markets, focusing on sensors used to analyze the environment, food, health, telecommunications and product quality. Approximately 2000 engineers and scientists from around the world will attend the technical program.

The conference fosters international collaboration, interdisciplinary research and a creative and critical environment for addressing technology and research challenges. It provides a forum for engineers and scientists to discuss new applications using lasers, optoelectronics, optical components and photonics. Speakers at SPIE Optics East present new methods for creating, controlling and using light within objects as common as Intel computer chips or as specialized as nanowire-based chemical sensors. Sessions will include the eclectic theory of intelligent robots; optics for natural resources, including agriculture and food; and three-dimensional TV, video and display.
More than 100 companies involved in optics and photonics-based devices, components and systems will participate in the exhibition  (Sept. 11-12), which is free and open to the public.

Organizations such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the US Army, the US Deptartment of Agriculture, the University of California, ChemImage Corp. and ASML Netherlands BV are will be among participants in Optics East.
