Andor Engineer Sets Sights on Beijing
When Cathal McMonagle isn't helping to design and build some of the most sensitive cameras in the world as an electronic engineer for Andor Technology of Belfast, Ireland, he is training to represent Ireland in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. McMonagle, who competes in the Super Heavyweight class, is the reigning Irish champion and was narrowly defeated in the European Championship finals, held recently in Dublin, Ireland. He is now undergoing intensive training and working reduced hours at Andor in order to spend more time in the ring. "I'm delighted with my performance at the European Championships, and it has motivated me to work hard for Beijing in 2008," he said. "It is my dream to fight in the Olympics. I'm lucky that Andor has given me the opportunity to spend more time training right now -- It's the only way I can compete against the best in the world."
