Kopin Expands Taunton Plant
Microdisplay maker Kopin Corp. said it plans to enlarge its production facility in Taunton, Mass., to support demand for its display and heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) products. The announcement was made during a ceremony at its Taunton headquarters during which the company was awarded a $3 million state development grant. John C.C. Fan, Kopin president and CEO, said the grant is a "continuation of our strategy which includes federal, state and Kopin resources and revenues to develop leading-edge display products for use in consumer and military applications." It will be used to build cleanroom facilities, make infrastructure improvements and to create a job training program; Kopin also said it expects to increase its work force over the next five years. The expansion is expected to be completed later this year.
