Tessera and Alps Sign a Licensing Agreement

Tessera Technologies Inc. of San Jose and Alps Electric Co. Ltd. of Campbell, both in California, have signed a joint licensing agreement allowing Alps to mass-produce and sell wafer-level optics based on Tessera’s OptiML wafer-level camera technology, which provides smaller, lower-cost cameras for use in phones and other electronics. The agreement will allow mass production of the singulated lens stacks for consumption by image sensor and camera module manufacturers, among others. The OptiML WaferStack lenses are expected to be commercially available in late 2008.
