Seoul Semiconductor, Osram to Share Patents

Seoul Semiconductor Inc. of Seoul, South Korea, and Osram GmbH of Munich and its subsidiary, Osram Opto Semiconductors GmbH of Regensburg, both in Germany, have signed a cross-license agreement under which they will share their patents related to white and visible LED technologies. Under the contract, the companies will refrain from raising objections against patent rights pertaining to the technologies and will defend the cross-license patent rights.

Osram has granted Seoul Semiconductor a license to manufacture and sell white LEDs with conversion technology using patents owned by its Regensburg subsidiary. In turn, Seoul Semiconductor has granted Osram a license to use its housing patents. Osram’s conversion technology enables the production of white LEDs using blue-emitting InGaN-based chips and a fluorescent converter.
