Saint-Gobain Buys ARO
Alpine Research Optics (ARO), a Boulder, Colo., supplier of high-performance coated optics, has been acquired by Saint-Gobain Crystals for an undisclosed amount. Saint-Gobain Crystals is part of Compagnie de Saint-Gobain, a Paris-based producer of construction products, flat glass, high-performance materials, and packaging, and a distributor of building products in Europe.
Saint-Gobain Crystals also has business units that produce optical raw materials including laser crystals, sapphire, ultraviolet-grade fused silica, and MgF2 (magnesium chloride) and CaF2 (calcium fluoride) optical crystals.
Peter Tibbetts, general manager at Saint-Gobain Photonics, said, “Saint-Gobain has spent the last several years building a world-class operation covering a diverse range of optical materials. ARO can now leverage this expertise and offer finished coated components based on Saint-Gobain crystalline materials.”
